STM HAS FULFILLED A CONTRACT WITH KAZAKHSTAN SILKWAY TRANSIT
Sinara – Transport Machines Holding (STM, part of the Sinara Group) has fulfilled a contract for the supply of railway equipment to the largest logistics operator in Kazakhstan – Silkway Transit. As part of the contract, STM sent the company 11 cargo dual-section electric locomotives 2ES7 “Black Granite”, high-performance diesel locomotives TEM9 and TEM14 in the amount of 16 and 4 units, respectively. The equipment was delivered in parts from the end of 2021.
“STM has successfully completed one of the largest recent contracts for the supply of locomotives. I hope our machines will cope with all the tasks of colleagues from Silkway Transit. I also want to emphasize that we are always open to dialogue and are ready to offer our partners advanced transport solutions”, said Anton Zubikhin, First Deputy General Director of STM for Sales and Interaction with Authorities.
Silkway Transit is a Kazakhstani private cargo railway carrier with its own fleet of locomotives of more than 60 units. The geography of deliveries of the group of companies covers almost all regions of the country. The choice of gathering-locomotive of STM was due to the fact that the traction capabilities, in particular TEM9, are one and a half times higher compared to the most common machines in the CIS. This is especially important for Kazakhstan, taking into account its difficult landscape. Moreover, thanks to the improved high-speed diesel engine, diesel locomotives are gaining a set speed twice as fast as analogues. Both locomotives are manufactured at the Lyudinovsky Locomotive Plant.
2ES7 electric locomotives have been operating on the Pavlodar - Nur-Sultan/Pavlodar – Aksu-1 and Kazykurt – Shu/Shu – Almaty 1 sections since 2021. The use of “Black Granite” produced at the Ural Locomotives plant allowed Silkway Transit to reduce the turnover of freight cars and significantly reduce the delivery time of cargoes to the final consumer. During the entire period of operation, the kilometrage of the locomotives amounted to 132 thousand km.
STM Holding has been cooperating with Kazakhstani companies since 2007. Over the past 15 years, 50 diesel locomotives of the TEM7A, TEM9 and TEM14 series, more than 80 units of track equipment, as well as 246 hopper dispensers have been delivered to the republic. Moreover, this is not the first contract with Silkway Transit – since 2021, the freight operator has already operated four TEM14 gathering-locomotives. Machines are working at the Dostyk/Alashankou border crossing (part of the “One Belt - One Road” initiative).
